Day 56 – Maupin Shelter to Paul C. Wolfe Shelter

Checklist and I had agreed to get up at 7 since it was going to rain all morning, but I woke just after 6 and thought why not just get up. We were on the trail around 8. Checklist left before me and I took a wrong turn and probably walked an extra quarter mile before I realized my mistake.

It was raining the whole time we were hiking. I kept my head and torso dry but every time I below the waist was pretty wet, especially my feet. We didn’t stop for lunch because it’s hard to eat lunch in the rain. We just kept plugging on until 2:30 when we reached the shelter, and, luxury of luxuries, it has a full covered porch with a picnic table.

The rain had stopped by the time we arrived, and the sun came out an hour later. We had caught up to Hootenanny, and we all shivered in the shelter and tried to hang our wet clothes up somewhere sunny

An hour later Slingshot arrived, and said that Two Esses (apparently now renamed Two Cees???), Lone Star and Ghost would be arriving soon after.

Ghost wound up tenting, along with Rocko whom I only briefly met, but Hootenanny, Slingshot, Two Cees and Lonestar are all in the shelter with us. Tomorrow we’re all headed into Waynesboro where most of us will be staying over at the Quality Inn, so there should be a good social scene.

Going to cook dinner now, over and out. Only shelter photos today. Too wet to take photos on trail.

Mile 844.3 to mile 860.3 = 16 miles
